C/W Draft 1 Deadline Checklist

Year 13 Draft 1 Coursework deadlines:  Wed Mar 1

THIS MUST BE FINISHED AT START OF PERIOD, WE ASSESS FROM START OF LESSON SO YOU MUST BE FINISHED BY TONIGHT OR TOMORROW MORNING BY 8:30

You might want to review mark scheme to ensure you’ve considered the elements (remember its different than last year)

1.       5 minutes of documentary
a.       Have quicktime version saved in your folder
b.      Make sure you have deleted
( share –quicktime – save as ‘draft 1 documentary – save to desktop and then move to your folder) (you should have draft 1, 2, 3, 4 saved)
2.       Ancillary one: newspaper advert
a.       Sample inspirational adverts (to show where you got inspiration from)
3.       Ancillary two: double page spread in listings magazine
a.       Sample inspirational double page spreads (to show where you got inspiration from)

Set: Dec 20
Due: Tues Jan 10 (first lesson back)

Structure your powerpoint in this format:

PART A
-Include a title page
-Assignment name and group members, colour code key

PART B
-teacher assessment of draft 1
-WWW & EBI of draft 1
-targets to improve draft 1
-how have you changed ideas over past few weeks to improve? (most of you can talk about changes in structure) Use evidence to briefly explain process of improvement

PART C
-how have you changed ideas over past few weeks to improve? (most of you can talk about changes in structure) Use evidence to briefly explain process of improvement

PART D
(these should be new ones)
-What are some documentaries (film and TV)  that you watched and got inspired by? (can take some from previous project but you could and should add to this) (can be some documentaries on your topic but not all of them - can be other topics)
-what specifically was inspirational to you?  (use print screens for this!)

PART E
(any added research)
-complete in depth research of the topic (1 or 2) that you have chosen to do, this research should be presented in a clear yet informative way. It should show you have knowledge and insight into this topic.
-research can include written text, photographs, video interviews, etc Try to explore different platforms

PART F

-what are the conventions of TV documentaries (from the assignment I set)
-what conventions are you USING? Provide evidence: how are you going to do this?

PART G
A – post previous ones and explain how you have improved through drafts
B – post the most recent draft
-To complete this section you need to consider the structure format I gave you and went through in class
(use a clear chart to create this)
(also remember that the subtopics must relate to the overall topic like an essay)
-what would happen for each episode (you could have 3-5 hour long episodes to plan for)
-choose an episode you want to focus on and give details as to what would happen in each one
-give details of the 5 minutes and what would happen in the 5 minutes

PART H
-complete a full storyboard using correct structure

PART I
-complete a full script using correct structure

-complete a full shotlist using correct structure

PART K
A) -who is your target audience? (age, gender, hobbies, interests, lifestyle, location, social class etc)

B) -get feedback from your target audience about your ideas and show the results
-complete questionnaires from your target audience about your ideas or details of your ideas
-could take photographs of these interviews to document the process
-could complete video interviews with your target audience instead of written component - could even use this in documentary

C) -how are you going to make a documentary which is interesting to your target audience according to your chosen topic?
  -how are you going to make a documentary which is interesting to your target audience according to form?
-how are you going to make a documentary which is interesting to your target audience according to conventions?

PART J
-what TV channel would you put it on and why (consider assignment you already completed)
-what time would you put it on and why
-how are you meeting the OFCOM standards

PART K
-style of titles/credits/captions
-also the style of your title for your documentary (done in many different ways but try to be more creative than simple writing on screen)
ADDED:
-what font do you want to use and why?
-what colour of font do you want to use and why?
-where do you want the font to be placed and why?
-what style of animation to you want for the titles/captions and why?  (consider what is available on imovie 11)

PART L
-music for background (remember limited copyright if sought permission and the rest is either from copyright free source or made by you in garageband)
-other sounds (effects or diegtic)

PART M
-ANCILLARIES:
-which listing magazine would you use use to put your double page spread which features your TV documentary in and why?
-are there are inspirational double page spreads that you have found that are inspirational? How are they inspirational?
-which newspaper would you use to put your newspaper advert to advertise your newspaper in and why? (consider the current advertisements of the channel you choose)
-are there are inspirational newspaper adverts that you have found that are inspirational? How are they inspirational?
ADDED: -inspirational images that inspire you for your magazine spread and advert
                -rough drafts (sketches) of both magazine spread and advert

PART N
-consideration of evaluation questions (that you can answer)  (mostly focusing on question I gave you last assignment I gave you and target audience)

PART O
-locations
-consider and plan for the locations used for:
-presenter: where films and why? (think about it’s relation to your topic)
-public interviews: where and why?(try to use various populated areas and also areas that relate to your topic)
-case studies (interviewing specific people to support a topic or issue) (also think about it’s relation to your topic)
-experts (think about it’s relation to your topic)
-statistics to support topics/issues (think about it’s relation to your topic)
-any other background images/settings/locations (think about it’s relation to your topic)

PART P
-actors (remember this is not a planned character but real life so you have to plan as best you can
-plan for:
-presenter: in slide cover, picture of them in real life, picture of them in costume, what they represent, plan for mise-en-scene: details of them, language/speech (how they speak and why), gesture etc.
-interviewees:      -what type of people do you want to interview from public? Why?
                -what type of people do you want to interview for case students  ? Why?
                -what type of people do you want to interview for experts  ? Why?

PART Q
-costume & props
-Identify and plan for all the costume and props you will need
-consider: what presenter will wear and why?
-other props you need for various things such as title and statistics?

Make a short powerpoint which identifies how you improved each draft. Remember, BE SPECIFIC and CONCISE!  

Complete this in each draft of your presentations. Remember it is ok to be honest and point out weaknesses to show that you have LEARNED

Organise the boxes by parts from the instructions (A, B, C, D….)

Happy new year and welcome back. I hope you had a fantastic holiday and enjoyed time off!

This week
-work period to prepare for presentation of final draft - presentations start Wed
-in class task: how you improved in within drafts
-please have a printed script, copy of storyboard and printed structure plan by tomorrow. I will review these when you present.

As you know, things are going to start getting very intensive. Filming begins this weekend and will continue from there. Will update you this week on deadlines
